Epidendrum surprise Male
Default Epidendrum surprise

I ran into my old professor on campus yesterday, and he gave me 2 huge reedstem Epidendrums and a little pot of air plants. One of the Epidendrums is in bloom and the spike is seriously about 3 feet long. I have recently moved to a beach house so I'm hoping that the Epidendrums can handle the salty air...

Reed-stem Epis are tough. I think it will be fine. I know several people who live right near the beach who have them and they grow like weeds.

Nice blooms. They are tough as nails, you'll be just fine.;

Yes, they are famous California beach house plants. I have seen many very large outdoor beds full of reed-stem Epis, in flower all year long.
