Default Confused Cattleya iricolor

I knew that one of my C. iricolor had a sheath which didn't flower along with the rest this summer, but it didn't seem to be developing. Until today of course! Because it's a recent import from the southern hemisphere and blooms seasonally I suppose a bit of adjustment while settling in is to be expected.

Is this what happens when orchids get jet lagged? Nice suprise for you that it decided to wake up and bloom anyway! Don't forget to share a photo when it blooms.

I will definitely post pics, and it should only be a couple days. This species does not dawdle come flowering time! Sadly though in about 2 weeks it will be just a fond memory.

Delicate looking, but the fragrance is as delicate as a sledgehammer!

Like no other flower I've smelled, although someone did tell me that L. anceps has a similar fragrance. Never having smelled an L. anceps I can't confirm that. Sweetened olive oil is the best description I can give.

How can such a delicate looking flower pack such a odor punch? Not sure that sounds like a pleasant scent! The bloom sure is nice looking though.
