Cattleya Iricolor
Smile Cattleya Iricolor

Hi everyone, I could use a source or sources for Cattleya Iricolor. I have spent hours on the Internet and cannot find anyone who sells this orchid. I am a newbie but would like to start with high frangrance orchids and the Iricolor is suppose to be the most fragrant of the Cattleyas. Any help finding a source where I can buy one would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

ps I live in Clearwater, Florida

Hi Uechi,
Here's a link to a Brazilian nursery that has Cattleya iricolor blooming size to sell. Don't know whether they export or not, but you can take a shot: Orquidário Santa Bárbara - Loja Virtual na Web!
Well, I know that perfume is a matter of nose, but I must say that, from my experience growing this Cattleya for long, that C. iricolor is perfumed, yes, but in my humble opinion it is not the most perfumed Cattleya nor its perfume pleases everybody. It is not like the Cattleya percivalliana unpleasant smell, far from that, but C. iricolor has sort of 'different' odor to say the less. I assume that you are talking about the Ecuadorian Cattleya iricolor (I'm posting a picture of my plant for you to see whether I am talking about the same plant you have in mind). Please, take this as a contribution.

Yes, the name iricolor is a reference to the "rainbow" coloured lip. Unfortunately, it does not breed through well, which is a real pity, and common of the species in subsection Stellata. C. forbesii has a lovely veining pattern in it's lip, and it is a trait that does not pass well at all.
