In search of P. cochleata for delivery to OH

K. So now that I have almost everything set up with upgrades, I was starting to go through the links Philip gave me, where he was aware I could purchase a P. cochleata.

Unfortunately, Maslow's no longer has any. I can't find a link to the etsy seller...but there was only One avail anyway. Can't seem to get through to Santa Barbara nursery.

Something trying to tell me I should opt for something else...or just cont with my rescues (and my fast developing Br little stars)? Heh.

Barring that, it seems some of you guys like Philip's description and care info and bought one for yourself! Where did you buy yours from? Or are you guys the ones that bought everyone out? 😂

Try searching for Encyclia cochleata. That's the old name. Also try Amazon, Sophie's and Hausermann.

Again, if by P. cochleata you mean Phal. cochleata, Louisiana Orchid Connection has them.

Ok. I should clarify that by P I mean Prosthecea. Did I even remember the correct spelling? That's why I was abbreviating it..though prob have Wrong abbreviation 🙄 Oops 😳

I see I'm gunna have to re read in Kullina book about nomenclature and abbreviations. 😬

IOSPE shows Anacheilum as the current correct genus name. They have been called Encyclia, Epidendrum and Prosthechea in the past, so you may see it sold as any of:
Anacheilum cochleatum
Encyclia cochleata
Epidendrum cochleatum
Prosthechea cochleata.

Anacheilum radiatum / Epidendrum radiatum / Encyclia radiata / Prosthechea radiata is very similar to Anacheilum cochleatum. You might like that as well.

Carter & Holmes has Prosthechea cochleata now.
Hausermann's, mentioned above by Carol, has them in bud now.

H&R has what they sell as Epidendrum Green Hornet, and they show its parents as Epidendrum lancifolium x Epidendrum cochleatum. If you use the Search function in the top maroon menu here on Orchid Board, you will find a thread by Selmo showing his incredibly vigorous, fragrant and ever-blooming Green Hornet plant. Green Hornet is actually Anacheilum / Epidendrum cochleatum / Encyclia / Prosthechea cochleata x Anacheilum trulla. In any case, Green Hornet is a great plant, too, and grows much faster than even its vigorous relatives cochleatum, radiatum and trulla.

Just as a quick update, my B little stars is going gangbusters, so for now I'm putting all my focus on her. Will update elsewhere.
