I recently acquired this famous heirloom cultivar from John of PureCountryOrchids... the plant is blooming now with one flower. But what a flower!
Rounder than any trianaes I have ever owned (I have over 25 different divisions including 'President', 'Mary Fennell', 'Cashen's' and 'AC Burrage') or seen, it is almost a full circle. Measuring 12 cm in NS and petals at 6 cm by 7 cm, it may grow even more in the next few days as it's only opened 2 days. The colour is a smooth candy corn pink, with a golden yellow throat and a deep magenta border on tip of lip.
It's unbelievable that this plant was jungle collected from the Colombian jungles along the Andes foothills and awarded almost a hundred years ago!!! And is still here to grace us with her beauty! I feel lucky to own a piece of a legend, a plant of historical importance.
