The space will get a revamp but I'm not sure how we'll tackle the job. The shelving unit it large but it's dug deep and not permanent as it's the main landscape bed in the back and when we do finally sell we want to be able to remove it so I'm not sure gravel is a good solution. ??? It would be ideal but I would hate to then have to remove the gravel in a few years. We might just excavate the area and put in sand and then cover w/fresh mulch but I know I'll have to remove all the mulch every year and replace it every spring so that could be a pain too. ?? To date we've removed some and freshened the area but I think that's why we had the problems...old mulch still there. I'm sure we'll come up w/something.

Thanks for the info on where I can find the plant and for the condolences, stone, NO, and ES.

Have you considered perhaps mounting corrugated fiberglass under your shelves to prevent water splash-back from the mulch?

WOW - No, I hadn't even thought about mounting something under there. What a genius idea! That would be perfect - it would save me from doing all the excavating. I'll still do a refresh of the mulch, pulling some of the old out and replacing like I do now, but w/the barrier between the ground and shelves, I wouldn't have to worry about doing extra deep digging. Perfect! Thanks for that bit of brilliance...it will be implemented next spring.
