I know I wanted one also but he looks like he's out now. Most of the tags say Goldcountry orchids and I do think last time I checked they did have Minipet. I'm waiting for Fred's new list to come out and see if he has them again. Isn't it about time?

I do have a Minipet from Gold Country, but I've yet to bloom it out. The pictured one is from Peter Lin at Diamond Orchids--he's got a great list of plants on his site at very reasonable cost. Check him out.

I hated losing that one!

It's sort of hard to imagine rotting one of these out (decomposed media aside); they're water/humidity hogs.

Yep...that's what I thought too. Unfortunately it didn't take well to he never ending rain we got for several weeks this summer. Some died quickly and some, with major surgery, died more slowly. In all though, I lost around 40 catts during the constant wet time. I suspect a large part of the problem was the ground under that area...mulched...and the constant wet harbored some nasty bacterial spores that ended up being splashed up and infecting the plants. Needless to say, a major revamp of the ground under that area will take place next spring, before the orchids go back out.

In the meantime, I'm trying to find some of the plants I lost...including minipet.

Oh, no! I'm so sorry!

I ordered a few mini Catts last winter and spring that had Sophronitis ancestry. They grew beautifully, then died quickly when it became slightly warm. That's it for me with mini Catts.

Sorry to hear about your plants I suspect never ending rain will do that... I only put mounted catts out for the summer (mostly L. anceps and its hybrids); everybody else stays indoors or in the greenhouse. Hopefully you'll get down some gravel in lieu of mulch..?

Define slightly warm? All of mine (straight S. coccinea included) have taken 85-90f days with no problems; then again our night temps rarely stay above 80. I have found that these are best deep watered at night, a couple of hours before sunset/lights out; they should stay moist in the root zone overnight, with a marked upswing in rh; then dry throughout the day while humidity falls...only to be replenished again in the evening...they need very consistent watering, higher evening humidity and plenty of air movement. Culture is the same regardless of being mounted or potted.

Summer nights were never under 80 F / 27C. Days were 90-100 F / 32-38C. They died within 2-3 weeks of arriving at this temperature range.

Oh my es and Katrina I'm sorry you lost your plants. I haven't lost one yet of the minis. I of course want some more and minipet is on that list. I have been a bit to scared to try a straight coccinea yet. My cernua is blooming and doing so good I got another of these.

Totally different from what they tell us. But then I do have to admit I water in the afternoon I know, but perhaps some are then happy with this.

Yea, it was a bummer...especially since I lost both nobiliors and 2 prized walkeriana. Let me just say...I shed a few tears over those 4 plants. Some of the losses won't easily be replaced. Yep...a few tears fell.

The space will get a revamp but I'm not sure how we'll tackle the job. The shelving unit it large but it's dug deep and not permanent as it's the main landscape bed in the back and when we do finally sell we want to be able to remove it so I'm not sure gravel is a good solution. ??? It would be ideal but I would hate to then have to remove the gravel in a few years. We might just excavate the area and put in sand and then cover w/fresh mulch but I know I'll have to remove all the mulch every year and replace it every spring so that could be a pain too. ?? To date we've removed some and freshened the area but I think that's why we had the problems...old mulch still there. I'm sure we'll come up w/something.
