C. Princesse Clementine 'SVO' AM/AOS x Blc. Suncoast Sunspots 'SVO11' AM/AOS in bloom
I just got a few plants from Fred Clarke of SVO. This one is an un-named hybrid. It was expected to be yellow with spots. I saw one NoProMwa had recently posted of this and you would wonder if mine is even the same plant. I also found another one online that looks more like how it was described than mine. Not saying I dislike it, but I am disappointed that it is so far off of the description by Fred and what I was hoping for. The couple of dark spots on the blooms are mechanical damage. It was just days away from blooming when it was shipped bare root to me from Edmonton where he was speaking at their meeting. So the buds were out on the spike and very subject to any shipping abuse. It has a nice scent.

It is the first time in bloom. Perhaps in time you'll have what was presented.

Thanks. Actually it is a 2nd bloom as I see an old spike on it. I got it from the bloom size category so I suppose the non keepers get sold off there. I know with a first time seedling it's a gamble, but once it has bloomed you pretty well know what they look like except for improvements in shape, size and bloom number. Oh well. It smells nice...

Your not kidding. How in the world even if it doesn't have spots does it come out an off white? It still has that nice purple lip on it. I really liked the fragrance too.

I'm tempted to e mail Fred and ask if this is really the correct name. But I suspect it is and was a dud. I do love the lip. Actually in OrchidWiz I see lots of pics of dowiana with a very pale yellow petal. So maybe that is where the off white comes from??

Yes now that I think about it I have seen the pale color also. I was just thinking of the color of the Clementine. I guess that's what happens when we get seedlings. To bad you can't get another one. I'm still tempted. I think it will grow on you it's just that when you think it's going to come out with spots and then your just shocked. I like the white colored ones with a purple lip.

It's cute, just so not what I was expecting. I don't think I will buy bloom size again. Between my friend and I, we bought 4 bloom size ones and they had all previously bloomed. So that means for sure it won't be a real winner as those would be kept by the breeder I am sure. With a seedling it is actually a better gamble because there could be a real beauty in there. I'm curious how another bloom size plant that has a sheath will come out. It had 4 buds, but I found 3 kicking around in the package and the 4th one blasted a couple days later. So I hope the sheath on another growth will produce something. It has 2 previous old spikes on it so I'm prepared to be underwhelmed now.
I had another thought: Yours was bloom size wasn't it?? And it fit the description much better. My friend got one of this cross too. Hers is in bud and will bloom within the week probably. So it will be really interesting to see how that turns out. And if hers is really lovely (spotted with colour) she will eventually share a piece with me as we do that a lot.

I agree, I had already put this on my list for when Fred came to Canada and when I saw NoProMwa's, I got real impatient to get one. And then when mine came in large bud, I was so thrilled. And then I walked into the greenhouse and saw this pale stranger brightly smiling at me I thought, What the...
OK, enough whining. I do think its cute.
