Hi all,

My Mom came home from a trip to Florida and brought back this orchid and another one that my Aunt brought from Colombia / Cattleya no tag.

I am wondering if the one with the tag is fragrant?
What type of fertilizing should I do.

The tag says white background with purple spots.
This is a huge plant.

Last time she went she brought back phals so this time I told her to buy the bag babies.

She bought a good size spectabile which I might convince her to give to me.

Your one with a tag has a registered hybrid name of Bc. Glorious May. It's parents are scented so there is a good chance it will have a scent. Just standard Cattleya care will be good. 1/4 to 1/2 strength fertilizer when you water. Plant in open chunky mix such as medium bark in a pot with good drainage. Let the pot dry thru before watering again. Once a month flush with clear water to remove accumulated fertilizer salts. This would take quite a bit of sun but not direct sun.

I only potted up the Cat from Colombia as it was bare root which my Aunt just took it off a palm tree in south Florida.

I tried to pot up the Colombian Cat as best as I could as it had a natural curve growing. I'll probably have to stake it or something.

You may have to stake it as they establish better when they are stable in the pot.

Hi Ashleyma23, the Columbian "Cattleya" looks to me like a Schomburgkia. Care is a little different. They need a lot more sun than even Cattleyas, and they do best mounted on a branch, or even just sitting in a wide empty dish.

Yes it does in deed look like schomburkia orchid.

I will look into trying to mount it and putting it in full sun.
I removed two hollow older psb. I was wondering why there was a small hole in each and were hollow. Upon researching that name , ants hollow it out.

Thanks again. I was thinking it gets full sun due to the lime green coloring as well.
