vitellinum / vitellina Male
Default vitellinum / vitellina

While I try to be scientifically correct, the taxonomists are really trying my patience. When I first saw this species back in the late 1960's, it was known as Epidendrum vitellinum. After a spell in the Encyclia genus, it is now a Prostechea vitellina.

Even though Cattleyas are not a primary focus in my collection, this species has always been on my list of things to pick up when I come across it. Well, I finally did.

In ancient Latin adjectives have different endigs depending on single/plural and male/female.
They has male, female and neutral (like he/she/it in english). Adjective must agree with nouns.
Epidendrum vitelinum (single neutral like "it") became Prostechea vitellina (single female liske "she").
Is this species difficult to grow?

It is a cool grower, but otherwise not too difficult.
