Default Slc Red Jewel

Got this at Santa Barbara orchid estate last year. This little guy is actually in not such a good shape 😞
Got some scales I need to kill and I think Hollywood CA is a bit too warm for it. Any suggestion of better way to take care of this little jewel is welcom

It certainly needs to get the light cut down a tad, like under a lattice, or one of those shade cloths. They have shade "sails" that look good and have all edges finished. From living in the desert all these years, I know that any shade will drop your temps by a lot. But Hollywood (or at least Malibu which is the closest I have gotten to HW) is near the ocean which also means humidity and maybe salt air, so I think your situation is a bit different. I keep my orchids "between houses" which is always fairly shady.

I agree that light, not heat, is the primary problem this plant has faced. Scale infestation happens pretty easily with a stressed plant like this. Still, it is making a good effort with that flower. May be found under the name C. Red Jewel now.

So lower light level? It is grown on a north facing wall, no direct light but can put it in the bottom shelf. Top shelf has oncidiums and cattleyas

Thanks for the tip
