Cattleya Identification Help Needed
Hello all,
I managed to lose the ID tag on this years ago and I have no idea what it is. I think it had a species name on it. The pseudobulbs are about 7 to 8 inches long and they get quite narrow at the base. Each has 3 thick leaves about 8 inches long, 2 inches wide, and they curve downwards. It blooms in thick clusters w about 5 flowers. This year they had much more pink on the petals than what you see in the picture. Basically the white on the petals was distinctly more pink than white. My guess is it's part of the Cattleya Alliance. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

I can't recall a species that looks like that (but could be wrong - has happened many times before!)
My guess is a Cattleya alliance hybrid - maybe some C. walkeriana in the mix? Is it a compact plant?
Sorry, can't help much beyond that.

Thanks so much for taking a look and responding. It's not a compact plant at all. I guess all that matters is that it consistently blooms for me. Very fragrant too. Thanks again!

Definitely a Cattleya hybrid. The flower resembles C. walkeriana more than any other species, but it is in there as a parent or grandparent of this plant, not this plant itself. With the crowded flowers and no good view of the plant it is difficult to even speculate. It could be something like C. Walkerinter (walkeriana x intermedia) but that is just the simplest representative of the type. There are many other hybrids of similar appearance. How big are the flowers?

Awesome, thanks for the information. I realize in hindsight it would have been helpful to include a picture of the plant. The flowers are about the size of a lemon

That's within the normal size range for a C. Walkerinter type hybrid, but over 1000 registered hybrids share that ancestry, just to start. Doesn't narrow it down much.
