Ok, I'm now ready to repot it. Got a 15 cm pot (5,9 in). Now its potted in a 4,7 in (12 cm).

What shall I do to the longer roots that are growing out of the pot? Shall I put them inside?

I have had good luck putting them inside, but I know others prefer to leave them out.

Well, I like to see roots growing out. It gives them a wild look.

Your humidity is somewhat low? In this case, unless you wet the aerial roots daily, they will die back to the pot very quickly.

For example, today we had a min of 27% and a max of 93%. But in summer it's always between 15 and 20%. These are the typical values.

It doesn't hurt the plant to have the aerial roots die back if the roots in the pot are OK. The plant is learning not to touch the hot stove. If you can spray the aerial roots every day during arid weather, they will not die back. I haven't managed this trick properly yet.

Well, my main concern is the holiday season, a week out of town...if I can put them inside without breaking them, fine. If not... we'll see.

Learned this from youtube... a wire clip to prevent cattleyas (and others) rizome from fliping.
Made using a semi-automatic welding wire.

I haven't managed this trick yet, either. My exposed roots always start dying at the ends and work toward the pot. They haven't reached the pot yet, but roots are shorter than when they started.

I have done a similar thing by putting 2 holes in the pot across from each other and running a wire between them over the rhizome and that seems to work also.
