Cattleya Missing Lip
Default Cattleya Missing Lip

Hello,

I've had two seperate Cattleyas bloom with missing lips in the past month. First time it was C. percivaliana, now it's my C. Melody Fair. I wasn't too concerned about the percivaliana because it was a first bloom and I just figured that it was an immature plant. But the Melody Fair has bloomed multiple times for me in the past without issues so now I'm worried. What's the deal?

I grow them cool/intermediate in a small greenhouse in San Francisco. Fertilize 2x/3x weekly (depending on weather) with K-lite at 40ppm N. Once per month supplements of KelpMax at 1 tbsp/gall and just started Inocucor Garden Solution at 1:100.

I'm sure it's nothing you've done. I've had oddities occur from time to time w/blooms and I believe it's just a quirk that happens once in awhile.

I see other blooms with the lips intact on that plant, correct? I don't think I would worry about it. It will likely be fine next time it blooms.
