When does your Brassavola nodosa & B. Little Stars Bloom??
Default When does your Brassavola nodosa & B. Little Stars Bloom??

Mine bloom in the winter, usually around December into January.

I remember seeing them advertised as "blooms multiple times a year".
I once saw a huge specimen of B. Little Stars in bloom in Hawaii in late October.

Please share when yours bloom and where you are located unless your member ID section says where you are already so I can compare.

Thanks in advance!

It's a first bloom for me, but mine is in bud right now. OrchidWiz shows in the northern hemisphere that it can bloom every month of the year, but the heaviest blooming is late summer thru late fall.

My B. Little Stars opened its first 4 blooms during the last week of November. I still have a few flowers hanging on now, but they will fade soon. No fragrance is detectable any longer.

Central Ohio here - grow inside 8 months of the year under lights and outside during the warm months.

My Little Stars always blooms Dec/Jan time frame. It's just getting going right now.

My nodosa blooms twice a year...once in summer and once in late fall/winter. My summer bloom is typically a bigger flush of blooms. It didn't start blooming 2x/yr until it got fairly large...as a small plant (4" pot) it only bloomed summer time frame.

Mine blooms twice a year, with a heavier bloom in late Fall/early winter. I removed the last flowers a week ago, and if the pattern continues, I will get a smaller bloom in late Spring. I have a B. Little Stars, a Lowes bag baby, mounted on cork in a terrarium.

I am very lucky with my Brassavola nodosa as it puts out new growths throughout the year and blooms as soon as each is mature. I have it under lights and it has been either blooming or growing. The blooms are small but it is super fragrant (unlike the one I gave away...large, odorless blooms--but it bloomed and grew throughout the year, too). Currently the nodosa is just growing new growths but...the Little Stars "Yasuji Takaeki" is putting on its once a year show right now. My Brassavola cucullata looks like it might bloom, soon. I did knock off at least one bud but I think one did survive...so far. :|

Thanks, everyone.
Keep 'em coming!

My nodosa and Little Stars all grow throughout the year especially during the warmer months, even make sheath in the summer on the growths that mature by Summer. But then all the new growths wait until late summer or fall to start growing spikes and come into bloom all together by December or January.

I like it because it gives me anticipation for their wonderful nocturnal aroma.
I would like it if they bloomed more often though.
So, so far, with limited samples, mine are behaving quite normally and typical for them.

I have two seed grown Little Stars, both of which are highly fragrant. My only nodosa with large flowers on a small plant is on and off ( moody I guess) with fragrance and not as strong.

I am nursing lots of nodosa seedlings, so hopefully I will one day have some easier and fragrant plants out of this batch.

Sounds like you have a great Brassavola nodosa clone. Maybe somebody would want to mericlone it. I'm more interested in easily growing, freely blooming and strongly fragrant clones than weak, once-blooming award winners.
