Ordered Rhyncholaelia glauca, ended up with Rl. Aristocrat. Male
Default Ordered Rhyncholaelia glauca, ended up with Rl. Aristocrat.

I ordered Rl. glauca from local nursery few weeks ago.
It had bud which opened yesterday, and the first thing I saw was the FRILLED LIP....

It turned out to be Rl. Aristocrat. (glauca x digbyana).
(...And I thought the plant was a bit big for glauca...)

I'm now bit disappointed and frustrated. I know that in Korea many nurseries do not give a damn about keeping correct name tag (I even saw a nursery who made up bunch of bogus names to the orchids they sell!), but seeing this from the seller I thought I can trust...oh my.

Anyway, I contacted the seller and am waiting for reply.

Nice flower btw.

It very well could have been an honest mistake...a tag mix up. I think we've all had situations like this from time to time. Hopefully the seller will come back w/an acceptable solution for you.

Whatever happens ...Aristocrat is a also a very beautiful catt.

I like it better than the digbyana. The digbyana is too "messy" for me so gave it away to someone who loves it.

I do love my glauca and the fringe on the lip from digbyana blended with the big glauca bloom is much prettier to me. Enjoy your mistake - it is lovely.

If the vendor's greenhouses are open to the public or he sells orchids in a market, he can't always control completely what happens. Some people pull the tags out of the pots to look at them and then stick them in...any pot. The growers/vendors don't always catch this and then they end up selling a mislabeled orchid to a customer. Another thing that happens is that a vendor buys orchids from another vendor and they are mislabeled by that other vendor. So, it may not be your vendor's fault. Good luck, though, on getting the right one.

Yes I can see your frustration, but it would be hard for me to be mad for too long. What a bloom.

Brooke what do you mean by messy? do you mean to much frill for you?

Too much stringy frill for me. It was a division of an awarded one (don't remember the clonal name" but it wasn't pleasing to my eye.

Well, thanks for the replies. By the way, here's the picture of the fully opened flower. The citrus-like scent is quite nice!

Really, the more I look at it...the more I grow fond of it. I'm beginning to feel more like...forgiving.

Definitely very digbyana-ish but nice. The scent would be a plus.

Is RL Aristocrat considered easier to grow, or more vigorous than its parents?

Almost wrote Aristocat.

The seller contacted me and apologized for the mistake. They seemed to be really serious about their reputation. And to my surprise...they promised to send me a seedling of Rl. glauca as a free gift(!!)

Well...just, WOW. I feel now grateful so much that almost sorry for them.
