Default Color Change: Blc Guanmaiu City 'Black Flower'

This may be more of a photography topic...but i am posting it here. I had a Blc Guanmaiu City 'Black Flower' in bloom. In my outdoor growing area, the color appeared a dark fuchsia red/purple. I brought it into my garage to match up a decorative pot in which to display the plant indoors, and I was shocked to see the flower turned a deep dark purple under the florescent garage lights. Once it was indoor under incandescent light, it was almost a true red. I know light effects coloration, but I have never seen anything to this degree. Pictures are attached. Hard to believe, but this is the same flower under 3 different light conditions.

WOW...lovely in any light situation. But those of us who grow indoors under lights see this happen according to what type of bulbs are used.

It is always amazing how color can vary in photography and especially with lighting. I am constantly struggling to represent the flower's color as near to natural as I can get. I do not wish to misrepresent the plant. This is most important for those who sell plants. Natural light can even cause color variations depending upon the time of day, shade, full sun, angle of the light, etc... Never the less, your flowers are amazing! Plus, if you get tired of looking at the deep purple you simple carry it to another room to have pink!

Flowers are pretty in all pictures.

You can try adjusting your camera's white balance in order to get colors that are closer to the original.

Anyways, it's always challenging to take pictures of flowers with saturated colors.

This is not a camera issue distorting the true colors. I did indeed adjust the white balance for daylight, florescent, and incandescent light. The colors in the photos are identical to what you see with your eyes when this flower is moved into different light. The flower is actually reflecting light wavelengths to a degree I have never seen in any other orchid.

When I try to photograph my vanda the camera gives me come kind of color warning. Almost like the color is too much for the camera to handle.

As a follow up, since this color change issue with this specific flower....I have taken at least 12 flowers from other orchids, varied genera , including a few large flowered Blc's......and moved them to different light sources. Although some show a small degree of color change, no flower has had such a major shift when put under florescent light as this one. This plant came from Odoms Orchids here in FL. They are Cat experts....I will contact them to hear their explanation.
