Question Cattleya jenmanii first blooming

This is a plant I bought 18 months ago and it's the first blooming.

It had a large sheath and the flower stem got bent in the sheath although I cut the sheath open before the flowers arrived the top. I suspect if I did something wrong.

It has a new growth as well, I don't know if I should wait for the new one to mature or start a dry period after the flowers fade.

Any ideas?

Congrats, very nice. I don't give mine much of a dry period. I do water less in winter because it is cooler and days are shorter. But OrchidWiz says not to let it stay dry for long. Since you have a new growth, I would water it when it dries completely. Not let it stay dry beyond that.

Same advice from me... If any plant is in active growth give it all the right conditions to support growth. Any directions to "rest" Catt jenmanii should say "IF winter conditions are cool and light is limited, and the plant is not in active growth, reduce water slightly".

I grow my jenmaniis in bright light all winter and let them dry before watering and they do well. Don't keep it wet too long as it may rot the roots. So let dry completely, then water.
