Epiphronitis Veitchii FCC/RHS
Yesterday I took a trip out to Gold Country Orchids and got a couple of new additions: Epiphronitis Veitchii FCC/RHS. This is the first one in my goal to collect all of the different types of orchids that contain "Veitch" (or a variant since mine is "Veach" but that spelling is more common in Europe) in their name. Most of them were, of course, named by/for Harry James Veitch who is pretty famous in the orchid world. He was a distant relative of mine.
Anyway, enjoy the photos and hopefully they will thrive our here in the sunny (meaning hot) central valley of California. I have 1 of them growing outside and the other inside to see which it prefers.

Nice! I don't know how to look up the answer to this question - how long ago was that one awarded? Sounds like maybe when Veitch was still alive?

These plants are actually from an original from Veitch & Sons in England. So it does have some history associated with it.
Does anyone know the culture requirements for this orchid? I know it can handle a wide range of temperatures (40-90F) and needs to stay moist (not wet but don't let it dry completely between watering) but I'm not sure about the light requirement (I was told it can be outside) so I would assume it can handle some sun, fertilizing (it grows year round so probably weekly weakly) and it sounds like it blooms year round as well. But if anyone knows the specifics or can point me to a web site that can provide that information, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

It's a beautiful orchid, it's wonderful to acquire the orchids that were created by a distant relative. You truely have a bond with them
