I've never seen one with flare, either, but you are right in that mericlone does not always produce exact same copies as many people might think.
While good majority comes out pretty much the same as the mother plant, some are different, for good or bad.

I prefer without the flare. hehehe
I had one, it was such a strong grower and great bloomer. Mine had a color break on the petal and I threw it away without a second thought.

I love the color and the shape of this hybrid, so I would love to have it, a virus free version.

I am quite happy with the flared petals. Makes it a bit more striking although I loved my other one too. I likely caused the virus in my other one as I had it early in my orchid growing years and didn't know about not sharing bath water etc. So at some point it didn't want to bloom anymore although it was still a vigorous grower. That is when I tested it for virus and ended up tossing it. I really felt the need to replace it so I got this one

I got one (without the flares) in a package deal from Carmela about 2 years ago. I do not recall whether they show it on their web site.

On a different note, this random mutation would be VERY desirable to some growers. When plant is large enough to be divided, you have a small gold mine.

Also, this mutation qualifies for recognition. You have to retain 'Azure Skies', but you can add 'Flares' or some other suitable designation. Also, you should try go get it to AOS judging on a good blooming.

Thanks for the info. I really like it with the flare and it is looking and smelling real good still. It has 3 blooms on this spike, not sure the 3rd one is obvious in the photo I posted

I will keep that in mind but sadly I am likely 1,000 miles or more from a judging centre. It's frustrating because we only have a chance for judging about once a year when we travel 500 km to the Edmonton show. They are talking of setting up smaller judging centres or doing some via video conference with one or two judges there in person. Not sure if that will ever come about, but fingers crossed.
