I break mine up then put them in a bowl and use a heavy glass to grind them up. (like a mortar and pestle). The pieces are very small, not a powder. After time, when I see the egg shells are not visible I add more to the top of the pot.

I've been using gypsum and Epsom salts. I grind up the gypsum pellets. I have large bags as I also use it in my garden and on my lawn.

I know the recommended dosage for Epsom salts but how much gypsum do you add to a gallon container?
