Default Looking forSchomburgkia Info

Ok,

So now that I'm back from the WOC I can start a new wish list and Schomburgkia is the first on it. Next week I'll be at our meeting and the guest speakers' topic is on Schombos. I would like to go a little more prepared than I am now. Anybody out there with crosses and how they like to grow would be helpful. Suggestions & pics would be great.

I live in South Fla. all my chids are outside in a screened pool enclosure and I do know Schombos like that

I just continue to collect as many as I can.
I just grow them in cattleya light and treat
them like all the others.

Happy Growing!

They're beautiful...and can get very big. I know on some of them the spikes can reach up to 15 ft!

From what I understand, they like it really bright and if their bulbs go somewhat yellow, that's good

15 Ft!!! They would grow through my screen roof. I hope there are some smaller varieties. I can give them bright light just not that much height unless they can go straight into a garden and then they would be the highest thing there

The inflorescences tend to arch out, more than straight up, for the longer ones. S. thompsoniana is smaller and have very cute flowers. S. galeotiana and humboltii are lovely but hard to find, as is S. sawyeri. S. superbiens is absolutely stunning, but is *huge*. S.wendlandii is the smallest of the genus and has smalle, non-resupinate flowers in ochre to cinnamon colour with a white lip.

Living in So fla, you should do well with them. I recommend basically growing them like Phal-type dendrobiums. I always hung them on the eves of the GH in summer where they could just drink in the sn from the east, with no shade. the cowhorn types (tibicinis, wenlandii, thompsoniana, etc) get to look like a bunch of bananas with leaves. But they sure bloom well with sun like that.
