Don't forget that some schomburgkia now go under the taxonomical name Myrmecophilia ('ant-loving').

Such a gorgeous genus, sadly they're just too big!

Try Myrmecophila albopurpurea if you want a smallest one.

Thanks Troy,

Albopurpurea is a beauty. How long does the albopurpurea spike get?

I saw a Schom. wallisii yesterday not in bloom at an orchid grower and it is already mature, it just lost its' blooms so I missed seeing it. But it looked like a nice size for me too. I may go get it.

Just a couple of feet. thomsoniana also has a short spike as does exaltata. I think there is a lot of confusion between some of these species so buy from a trusted grower or buy in bloom so you know what you're getting. That being said, I plan on collecting as many species as I can regardless of space as I'm quite addicted to them at the moment.
I currently have
albopurpurea
exaltata
rosea
thomsoniana
thomsoniana var. minor
humboldtia
superbiens
undulata
tibicinis

I have splendida, wendlandii, and lueddemaniana on order.

Hi Dave, I remember seeing that post. I remember because the tree seemed to be huge. No such luck at my house. I'm waiting for some replacement palms to get tall enough to mount some catts on. I moved here 3 years ago and put in all new landscaping. There was very little to begin with. I planted a Japanese Fern tree 1 1/2 years ago and it has doubled in size. It still needs to get a little taller. Then I'll really be able to move more guys out of the screened patio area.

Troy, I forgot to ask if Myrmecophila albopurpurea is fragrant. Do you know? I like the thomsoniana, is it fragrant?
