Lc. Memoria Robert Strait 'Islander Delights'
This is a very eye catching cattleya. The flowers are a little crowded (did not stake them properly) but the colors and shape of the flowers are striking. I received a cutting of this plant from Calvin Kumano of Pearl City who won a few trophies with the mother plant. The flowers are very firm. The plant is growing in New Zealand Sphagnum Moss.

Looks great Mel! I'm surprised that you're growing this one in spag though. What prompted you to use that media?

Hi Steve. I actually plant many of my "keepers" in New Zealand Sphagnum Moss. I've been doing this for years on my cattleyas, dendrobiums, bulbophyllums and phalaenopsis. The roots really like the Sphagnum. I also use the Sphagnum on plants in distress. I find that plants not doing well recover better with the Sphagnum. I would use Sphagnum on more of my plants but it is hard to get and is expensive.

This has been on my wishlist, but the color on your plant is quite different than the ones I've seen in pictures. They were more bluish.
Anyways, very very beautiful!!!
It's one of those flowers that make you stop and drop your jaw.
What's the diameter of that pot so I have an idea of the size of the plant and flowers?
They look very large.
I bet they smell heavenly too?

Wow is right! Great flower and photography. I was curious about the spag too. Thanks for answering the question. How long does it last for you in Hawaii? This has been on my wish list but I haven't seen it. I recently came across a Rlc. Ann Cleo which looks similar. Thanks for posting.
