Encyclia mariae strange growth

I recently acquired a rather sickly little Encyclia mariae. It suffered even more when my cat chewed off its 2 remaining leaves. Since then, it had started one tiny new pseudobulb. I also noticed that one of the older pseudobulbs had sprouted a rapidly growing green growth midway up. What is it??

Mystery growth is red arrow, new little PB is black arrow.

Too soon to tell really + the pic is really blurry. Could be a new growth or it might be a root.

FWIW - the accepted name for this orchid is Prosthechea [Psh.] mariae.

Thank you! This is my first one. .. is it common for growth to occur from half way up the PB as opposed to the base?

The picture is too blurry to be sure, but if there is a node at that point on the pseudobulb (might just look like a faint line around it) then it isn't impossible for it to be a new growth. Probably more likely than a root from that position. Every node has meristem tissue that can potentially grow, and especially if a plant is in distress it might try anything to survive.
