Hmmmm
Sounds like your Your Encyclia cordigera resents disturbances, but I find that this Encyclia in particular [and quite a few of my others] can be re mounted or re potted at will and seem to recover like a champ.
That's typical with orchids isn't it? I don't know how many times a skilled grower has given me a species Catt or Encyclia and said "this one is REALLY easy to grow and bloom" and I manage to kill it befor sunrise.
I find that although E. cordigera is the picture of adaptibility as far as light and temperatures it does prefer warmer nights [around 62 F] and very bright light. No doubt you are already aware of this but a 4 mounth rest period with less water and slightly lower temps really helps flowering. MY E. cordigeras resent witholding so much water that they shrivel though.
Encyclias are wonderful plants that happen to do very well in the culture I'm able to give them. I enjoy them in and out of bloom, as I find the foliage very pretty as well, (more so than Catts) I like the hybrids as much as the species. Another great hybrid is the Encyvolas, (formerly Bepi). Here's my Encyvola Florida Bay recently. Also a wonderful fragrance from this one! And here's a former bloom on my Enc Thomas's Finale 'Jungle Candy'.
Cheers,
Tony
