C. loddigesii var. oculatum
Got this at the Flamingo Gardens Orchid & Bromeliad Show this past weekend, the last thing I needed is another Cattleya but could not resist and being only $30.00 sealed the deal. Enjoy as much as I am.

Very pretty! They look so flat from the front. Very interesting. I love the scent of loddigesii. I haven't heard of the oculatum variety, so I looked it up. Apparently, oculatum means "having eyes." Though, I don't really see it. Does it look like an eye to you? Nonetheless, a nice find!

They are really quite attractive blooms (although I too don't get the "oculatum" reference). And at $30, the plant was definitely a deal. Congratulations on your great find.

I wasn't aware that such a variety exists in loddigesii. But if it did, it would have a central dark splotch in the lip...

I was out this morning moving a few orchids around and when picking this one up the tag was right in my eye view and I did a double take when I noticed the name on the tag as some of you had questioned the name, the correct name of this orchid is Cattleya loddigesii 'Aranda' AM/AOS. When I was typing the name of the orchid to put in the picture I was looking down on a pad of the name of the 4 orchids I had purchased that day and ended up getting the var. oculatum from the name of the orchid that was listed just above (Dendrobium fimbriatum var. oculatum). Hey kids I will be 67 next week and the brain does not always work like it use too, much less the body, just think you will all have this issue to deal with! I have to keep reminding myself that I need to double check everything before I hit the Reply button, just a reminder that is sometimes hard to except!
