It' s gorgeous!
I have what was a seedling that has a sheath for the first time. I hope it blooms. I think I will show it yours so it knows what I expect in the future

Great question Shannon. From my personal observation, leaves growing straight up vs flat has to do with light. If light is strong, the leaves will be straight up (actually avoiding strong light). If light is low or directional, stems grow at odd angles to get the light. Crowding can also cause weird angles.

I hope someone else comments. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Rarely do cattleya leaves grow upright unless the sun is directly above. They will orient themselves towards maximum light. The best way is let the new leads grow. Once close to mature you can stake them upright for nice presentation, allowing room for blooms to present well.

Definitely bring your plant to judging. The petal ARE fuller and more upright than most mossiaes. The straight dorsal sepal is a big bonus too. The markings on the lip is strong and clear. Might score high HCC or low AM. If not it may get best cattleya of show nonetheless ... Good luck!
