Do your cattleyas grow and bloom well?
Then, I think your nodosa is getting enough light.
You can give B. nodosa more light than Cattleyas though.
Experiment and see what happens.

Purple pigment can also develop under coold temperature condition with magnesium deficiency I have read.

I have one in spike now. The other is too small. Definitely not quite blooming size. I think it has another year of growing to do first.

I got one in a very small pot- maybe 2 inches?- and it had many old stems of flowers that had previously bloomed on it. The plant has probably more than 10 "chives" growing for me!!
I say that because it just looks like chives

They are a warm growing plant and grow like weeds in the heat. Might be different in cooler weather.

Just my

I have my brassavola nodosa hanging in a south facing window with an old translucent shower curtain shading it, but the plant gets complete sun all day through that curtain.

It has gotten purple spots all around the leaves, and is sending up three new growths at the moment (I'll probably look at it today and see a few more sneaky lil baby growths). I am on the 45th parallel, so that tells you my light situation better maybe. I'm halfway between the equator and the north pole.

I get the feeling now that my brassavola could probably take full sun here if I acclimate it just right.

I saw this at Lowes today and wasn't sure if I would be able to keep it alive.

Maybe I should have grabbed it ..: darn I bought a cattleya I already had at home instead ... Lol

Good growing , let me know if when the blooms develope if they are too fragrant at night.

Grab it next time! If your Catts survive then the Brassavola should be fine too.

I will also offer the suggestion that next time you repot, go with coarser medium. Since a mount is not an option, try a net pot, or a terracotta pot. Brassavolas hate to stay damp.
