Default Laelia briegeri and L. caulescens

L. briegeri has an extra-long spike, and the yellow flowers shape is very good. L. caulescens bloomed (one flower) in X-mas, and now more three flowers (in another pbulb). Two more rupiculous (lithophytic) Laelias are in buds (L. fournieri and L. caulescens - another clone), I hope I will post the pics soon (if the slugs do not eat and if the buds didn't rot - endless rain here...)

Nope, got briegeri from Andy's last fall. 2 new growths should equal two spikes (that's my thinking!) Planning on more of these in the future (different spp) as they suit my growing regime just fine.

I found these articles on laelias -
The Other Jewels of Minas Gerais - Brazil's rock-dwelling laelias
Orchids of The World - Laelia - this one gives a species list and habitat zones
ENJOY

Ross - you just may want to enhance your 'wish' list
You, too, Magnus

Dorothy,

They are in clay pots, larger than taller, with more or less half filled with LECA and/or carchoal pieces and/or pieces of clay tiles, pots etc. (they love a very good drianing), and the top half is a mixture of coconut chips, pine bark, pine cone and small pieces of carchoal (I buy this media ready to use). In caulescens I put only a few tree fern fiber in the roots, 'cause they are damaged when I repotted (one year later); usualy rupiculous don't like tree fern fiber nor sphagnum, 'cause this kind of media retains much water. Almost direct sun, they bloom with more vivid colors (if they are under few light the flowers colors are pale).
Thanks for the links, very beautiful pics! Caraça, in Minas Gerais, is an unforgatable trip!

Dorothy, the wishlist already contains ALL! But unfortunetly my growing condition is not good for rupiculous Laelia´s.

More info on these small gems: Rupicolous Laelias, Greg Allikas, 15 Jul 98
