I think the weather has been cooler so this bloom has done better than before. Previously it lasted only 3 days...

That's sort of sad, they must not last to long. I hate that. One waits so long for a bloom then they should last a bit, well my

Stunning flower!! Congrats! I just noticed that your plant looks a little bit different then mine, maybe it is just the picture, bud as far as i can see your leaves and pseudobulbs are much more green and smooth. The leaves on mine are far more grey/blue-ish with a powdery finish. I was just wondering, are there more 'types' of this species, or is it just the growing culture?

I have an old species plant growing its flower bud now! I got this cut from a friend of an original plant with 7-8 inch leaves I got in the '80s. I have recently asked and gotten a few other sample plants from other growers; most have flowered before yet have 4-5 inch leaves. All are that blueish with the white "scale" on it. Are these different geographics? I have one that is a 'Fiddler's Green' cultivar...the rest though look like it does. Anyone know anything with this!?

I had one of these many years ago that I purchased as a 3-4 pseudo bulb plant. Well, it grew and grew until it had about 10-12 pseudo bulbs but never bloomed. Finally one winter I put it right up next to the glass in a south facing window and watered it very sparingly all winter long. In the spring it finally rewarded me with two flowers.

When it finished blooming I threw it out. While beautiful, I figured anything that took that much time and effort could be replaced with something more rewarding.

I suspect it is my growing conditions in the tropics and the amount of sunlight it is getting... the bloom is still alive but barely. So about more than a week now.

I used to grow this one in full sun when I lived in Hawaii. It was mounted and would dry off almost instantly after my daily watering because of the trade winds.
