I'm not really into pink flowers, but these are just so damned cute in 3" pots.

They are very interesting, structurally. The stems are only about 1 mm in diameter, but the roots are fat, like a phal.

And this is how it looks when it grows up... pic is from last year (late winter '14)and it's even bigger now. The color is off in this pic...it's more of a lavender than pink. Very pretty plant. It was the central focal piece in my club's Spring show display last year and it cinched a best in class. Still far too young/small to be pulled for AOS judging but I was quite pleased w/the BIC.

Awesome plant!! I got it back in '09 or '10 and I find it to be an easy grower (bright light, intermediate temps, let dry between waterings) and reliable bloomer and it blooms for several weeks so it definitely earns it's space. Mine is just now getting fired up for this bloom cycle ..I'll be posting pics soon.

This was the same plant 2 yrs ago...feb/march '13

You can see how much it's grown just in that one year. To give you an idea of the size...the tree fern totem it's on is about 18" long.

Like I said...awesome plant but be prepared to groom to keep smaller (sharing is not a bad thing!) or expect it to eventually require a good deal of space. It earns that space though.

Ray, hope you don't mind my input. Used to be this was not often seen and I've been seeing more of these lately so I get excited because it really is a great plant.

That's great, Kat.

Marni Turkel gave similar advice. They seem to be "keiki factories", with each individual plant being relatively small, but forming potentially large clusters, as you have shown. her comment was "Everyone should grow one of those".

I agree about everyone should have one AND if you let it grow into a large specimen...it gets better and better each year. As big as mine is right now it still has at least a couple more years of growing up before I can start thinking about AOS judging. Some day though...

The only thing that could make it better would be a nice fragrance but I've never detected even a faint one.

Definitely an awesome plant.

A lovely species, better known here under the synonym Oerstedella centradenia.
