Default Epicatanthe Volcano Trick 'Fireball' in bloom

I've had this one about 6 years. It's been a good, and reliable, bloomer for me. It's proven to be very temperature tolerant; Grows outdoors, and takes whatever temps nature throws at it (sheltered from frost and freeze, and winter rain) - This year, it wasn't even put into the garage when there were a couple of mornings that got as low as 31F for a short period, tho it was well sheltered, and right up next to the house - and it was in bud at the time! Summer highs can occasionally be upper 90s - just a bit over 100 for short periods, but I try to keep orchids out of the afternoon sun in those temps.

It has a total of 5 spikes this year - one not yet blooming, and only one with all blooms open yet. It's still bearing some foliage that was damaged by some critter (racoon ?) a couple of summers ago

Potted in coconut husk chips, 5" clay pot - watered when media approaches dry. Gets some direct mid to late afternoon sun.

Thanks for looking

Wow, it is gorgeous! These must bloom any time in the year. My 'Orange Fire' cultivar gave me its first bloom this fall. It now has a new growth half grown and I am already looking forward to seeing blooms again. Yours is a real show!

Thank you, all!

Silken - the first year I had this, it did bloom a few times, but it seems to have settled into annually blooming. All new growths bloom, but they all start to grow, and thus mature, around the same time. Of course, mine growing in less than ideal temps for part of the year may be affecting that
