Cattleya Alliance Name ?????? Female
Default Cattleya Alliance Name ??????

Hi, I live in Buffalo and have this pretty little thing with no name that just opened up. It was going to have 2 blossoms but didn't have enough strength to keep both going. It has a slight spicy fragrant. I thing it is a Blc.,but not sure. Can anyone help me give it a name. I'll try to insert pictures.
Thanks,
ahazz

If you know from where it has come, you can contact the vendor and explain that you would like to find the name of the orchid so you can care for it more properly. Maybe they would be willing to give you the name of their supplier so that you can get the name.
It is difficult, sometimes, to identify the parentage of a complex hybrid. I am definitely not familiar with the various differences between all the Cattleyas which is the reason I did not respond earlier. There are many smaller members of the Cattleya family used heavily in breeding.

Here is a an AOS site that shows some of the different Cattleyas and how they influence breeding:

Here is another AOS site that just has some pictures and descriptions.

Thanks everyone. It was purchased from a club members table at an orchid show that I attended. I too think it is a Blc. or Pot. It does have a pleasant fragrance.

It will probably to fine with regular Cattleya culture. So many are complex hybrids that if it doesn't have a tag, its almost impossible to figure out what is in it. But being a complex hybrid also makes it more flexible and fairly easy to grow. It's very pretty and looks like a mini or compact Catt to me.
