My "gaskelliana".

Thanks to Brooke, Leafmite and Patt'sCatts' to help me to identify my plant in another thread. These pics are for you. Here I want to share this beauty.

The flowers have all the gaskelliana look, but the pattern lip... I think that is a gaskelliana with a semialba hybrid.

Now the flowers are full open. I love this species look: streamlining, 3-dimensional, with the petals forward, the upper sepal back, the subtly rounded tips, 5-inch flowers that would measure more if widespread, a photogenic flower where it looks. If I see the lip from bottom is wonderful and the tepals have a glittering texture. It has an ethereal look as if to take flight. And the fragrance is amazing.

Thanks! Great you like it. Yes, it´s perfect... and I'm still thinking that I find more interesting and lavish this cattleya shape than the flat fat hybrids... with some exceptions (thinking about white cattleyas hybrids)

The blooming period of the gaskeliana is usually one of the main factors in determining it's identity. Since it's blooming now (and out of season for gaskeliana that normally blooms in summer) we can assume it's another species or a hybrid. If it blooms more than once a year it also indicates hybrid genes. If u observed the bloom period, rooting period, new bulb growing times and rest period, you can identify it along with the sheath (double or single)... For all we know it could be a late labiata, jenmanii or trianaei...
If not it is nonethless a beautiful semi alba flower to enjoy for many years to come!!
