Cattleya gaskelliana? Please ID...
I bought this plant as gaskelliana, but I don't think so... The lip pattern is not typical for a gaskelliana as I see at some web pics, but I´m not an expert about cattleya species. The flowers remind me hybrids like Melody Fair or Mishima Flash, but the petals have that "elephant ears" shape, the upper sepal is bent backwards and there is a certain species "look", that I really like, so I don't know what to think about it. I don´t complaint. Indeed I like it a lot, so I don´t care that it isn't a gaskelliana.
I will appreciate your comments about this wonderful flower. Ahhh, no fragrance yet... still it has 3 days opening.
Thanks
Mario

There is quite a bit of variation in C. gaskelliana. I have two, siblings, from the same flask and they are very different. Here is the Chadwick and Son's article on them with some good pictures.

And the normal color

I don't know if the throat of yours falls into the gaskelliana range. I have a different species with the pure yellow coloration of yours but I can't find a pic of it.

Here are mine. They are siblings from the same flask. Unlike Brooke's absolutely perfect and gorgeous ones , these two are not likely award quality (not like the one that was kept by the vendor, the one that he felt achieved what he hoped). Still, I really like them.

I did my searching in the web, but I don´t find clues to give me a real ID. Today the flowers start to have a nice fragrance. Indeed I´m enjoying it a lot.
Thanks again.

I am not certain if the fragrance completely matches. I did not own the second one when it was in bloom. I bought it afterwards. Perhaps if they ever bloom together, I will be able to answer that for you.

Hi Mario,
Don't know if it helps but a i posted a picture of my gaskelliana were you can see a close up of the lip. Whatever the background of your plant is, it is a fantastic color, what a striking lip! Congrats! 👍

Thanks Pat'sCatt's!! You have a wonderful gaskelliana. I think that mine is a gaskelliana with a semi-alba hybrid. The lip pattern is that I doubt about a 100% gaskelliana, but well who knows!
