It really is a great red with excellent shape. I didn't think you could have latinized hybrid name anymore.

?? Are you referring to the name Rubescence?? How could that be a problem? I have one called Rubescent Fire, also named by Fred Clarke of SVO. But its just a name like Waianae Leopard is derived from a Hawaiian word. I'm confused

Well I'm not up on my rules of botanical nomenclature but I thought that species names were latinized and hybrids were not suposed to be latinized anymore because it caused confusion. Rubescence is awfully close to rubescens.

I don't know but species names are differentiated by a small first letter, with hybrids using a capital. That was my understanding of the proper nomenclature and how to tell the difference. My Rth. Rubescent Fire was registered in 2011 so maybe rules have changed since then. It would be interesting to see if someone knows if there is an actual rule on that. You would think that would be applied to anything in the plant world then and pretty hard to police.

OK, I just googled it. rubescent is an english noun and not a latin word: the quality or state of being rubescent. My bad.

Rubescent Fire... two english word, meaning reddening fire.
Well to register a name you have to go through RHS... the police.
