Is this a Bc Maikai Mayumi?

Hi everybody,

Can anybody confirm that this is a Bc Maikai, and probebly Mayumi? I bought this as a 'Amethyst' but i'm sure it isn't! So i searched and googled, and i think it must be a Maikai?! Oh well, what ever the case may be, it is a pretty little thing, isn't it.....

It looks like a Maikai but without a tag or confirmation from the grower, it can't be a definite identification. As to whether it is 'Mayumi', there is also 'Louise' and several other cultivars that look much the same. It is the blooming time for my Maikai.

Uncertain what you mean by 'Amethyst' in single quotes with no other identification. If you mean Bl. (Bc.) Amethyst, this is definitely not that hybrid.

Otherwise, best guesses... Maikai probably. Maikai 'Mayumi' probably not. Maikai 'Louise' no. Maikai 'Amethyst' no way to know, but if that is how it came labeled I have no reason to doubt it without pictures to compare.

Maikai is always variable depending on conditions, there are many named cultivars but not always good pictures to compare to, and there are many seedlings without cultivar names that were distributed. Also, some similar crosses that are essentially impossible to distinguish. Positive identification of an unknown hybrid or cultivar of this type just isn't possible.

Thanks Silken, the grower wasn't sure about it, just that some plants were mixed up, but it was defenatly not Bl Amethyst. So i think i will label it as Maikai with a ? behind it, hahaha

Sorry about that, your right, just a last name isn't enough, it should have been Bl Amethyst. So that's how the plant was labeled. So now i have a Maikai-isch Bc, lol, but with a pretty little flower!

It certainly wasn't any of the Amethyst I saw in OrchidWiz.
But maybe now that you have a bloom, the grower can confirm that it is a Maikai and maybe even the cultivar if they only had one kind.

Thanks for looking it up for me! I already send a picture off the flower to the grower, but he wasn't sure about it, so i suggested that it could be a Maikai, i'm still waiting for a respons. Maybe it will be confirmed that it is Maikai! :-)
