C. percivaliana 'Summit' FCC/AOS first bloom
I was beginning to give up on this one. I bought it in 2011 supposedly as bloom size. It put out several small sheaths since then but never developed spikes. So finally I am seeing some results and it is right on schedule. This species is known as a Christmas blooming orchid. These buds opened on the 31st of Dec. I am hoping for more blooms on each spike next year. Again, I have to wonder if my addition of a Cal/Mag supplement beginning 6 months ago is playing a role here. I am seeing lots of first blooms on stubborn Catts these last few months

I read that calcium is crucial when it comes to blooming cattleyas. I have cattleyas that has been with me but refuse to bloom and I'm still experimenting on them.

Hmm ... I'm wondering if my purpuratas my benefit (bloom) with the addition of some calcium ... My smaller Catts - intermedia, and compact hybrids - all bloom fine, but my bigger species ones just don't love me

Thanks. I have a Laelia purpurata that has never bloomed and I am hoping for a change soon. But whether it is coincidence or what, I have been finally getting some stubborn Catts to bloom. The only change was the supplement and adding a pH down additive. I also had the black spot problem on some Catts which seems to be getting better with new growths since the change.

Beautiful mid-winter orchid, Silken. By the way, my female cats' name is "Silky." She is a real diva! More light & some 10-30-20 should do the trick. (only after growth is mature) Works for me...BettyE.

Very nice! What do you think of the scent? I always thought it was reminiscent of a stinky Bulbo, but I know some people like it!
