Brassavola glauca
Hey orchid lovers!
So I have a seedling plant of brass. Glauca coming in the mail, but I've been reading conflicting information about growing it, so I came to you guys yet again
Do I need to give it a dry period? Keeping in mind it's a plant of five small growths and not yet flowering size?
Should I just grow it in a hanging ceramic orchid pot like my nodosa and other brass. Hybrids? I don't know... Would it rather grow mounted than in a pot?
All this confliction has confused me, heeeelllpppp!
Thanks, Jack

mine has done well in a hollowed out treefern block filled with sphagnum. Its grown in the greenhouse high up for maximum lighting.(70% shaded summer ,full sun in the winter). Temps are all over the place. from a low of hopefully not below 40'(everagain)and a high that has exceeded 100'. Over 3 years old and never bloomed but lots of sheaths the bud burglar robs from me each year. I think he got them this year too. I dont give it any rest and continue thru out the year treating the same way. In winter it doesnt need so much water but mine like to stay pretty moist. A little drier in winter but no actually REST. My plants dont know how to rest
good luck to you buddy

Brassavola glauca
I'd write a new tag. It's a Rhyncholaelia glauca.
I grow mine mounted on a piece of cork bark.
Full morning sun in summer outside, under lights in winter.
My temps are intermediate to warm.
It's also still a baby with 6 small and two new growths. Did not bloomed yet for me.
I'm a beginner and did not kill it in the 3/4 year it's with me. So it can't be to difficult to grow 😉

The question about a dry period: I think that the limiting factor is light. When your plant receives more light, temperature in daytime raises, the photosynthesis works and so you can water and fertilize.
Without proper light it is better to maintain cooler temps and less water, as growing slows down.
For RJSquirrel: I noticed that in Rhyncholaelia glauca there are clones that flower regularly, even when young. Other clones grow well, but hardly never bloom - at least under my conditions.

That is well grown! Can you imagine how nice it would be if there were some flowers on this plant?
BTW, isn't that dark little thing on the far right a spike or sheath?? and I think I see a skinny green sheath on one other lead also? Or do you get these empty sheaths that never make flowers??

Definitely change the tag to the correct name and grow it along with your nodosa. If your nodosa does well for you, the glauca will do just fine.
