Back when I was still a student, I'd bring my orchids back to my mother's place for the summer, and my mounted orchids would hang outside, sheltered from the rain (normally). But there was a particularily wet period one year, and the mounts still got wet. Soph cernua didn't like it, and got rot. I removed the badly affected bulbs, but it still kept spreading....

That is a beautiful color! I just have the 'plain' red one. I love it but yours is really fabulous!

Sorry to hear about your soph cernua. Sounds like what happened to all my Angraecum didieri this past summer. Cold and wet and they didn't like it.

Im sad to hear that, its really beautiful when this species get big and big with many fronts.

Thanks for the compliment, Im so happy with this flower. This seems like cernua version of Soph coccinea var ´buterfly`

I think they dont like being damp and cold too, specially at night. But they dont like being completly dry neither.
I got some plants, 2 on cork slab, 2 on a clay jar filled with nutrients solution, and another 2 mounts combined with clay pot with sfagnum and clay pellets as medium always wet. They re all good, but the ones with the best progress are those combined mounts and those in the clay jar thats its always wet too. Im experiencing what works best for me.

The seed pod seems to be in the right way, Im gonna post a photo later. Friend told me that cernua seed pod needs 80 to 85 days to be mature, and maybe less depending on temperature he said. I cant wait.
I think its probable to get yellow offspring, any thoughts about percentages?

what happened to your seed pod ? I have a flask of my own cernua selfing and came across this posting. Mine took about 63 days to dehisce.
Into what media did you plant your seedlings. I was thinking about a clay saucer filled with sphagnum but I am worried that the roots will stick to the saucer and I will never be able to separate.

Hi, My cernua capsule aborted due to much heat I think, in eraly january some days above 40ºC.
Then I bought 2 flasks from a friend and they re doing pretty well, I planted most of them in 2 clay pots with Styrofoam in the bottom and just 2 cm of sfagnum. the bigger ones, I put them in individual pots. I will take photos and post later.

I think u will not have problems with the saucer, roots are easy to remove without damage using just your nails.
