Laelia albida tipo Male
Default Laelia albida tipo

A plant from western Mexico, epiphytic in the Madrean pine-oak forests of Oaxaca, at elevations between 1200-300 meters. Reportedly the environment is more to the dry side. After the new bulb is completed, a rest period with less water and cool nights is needed, but with as much light as possible in our grey short November days.
I bought my plant 20 months ago, mounted with a fading flower in March. Now it is in natural rhythm, what means flowering in November/December.
Several great colour varieties are known, but difficult to get by.

Beautiful! I love the Mexican Laelias, but I can't grow them in these hot Texas temps. Does this one have a scent?

Very pretty flowers. And I really like the Mexican laelias a lot as well.

I also have some more Mexican Laelias on my wish list. I prefer to buy them flowering, and not merely by label.
Laelia albida is said to be slightly fragrant. Up to now I haven't noticed any scent. This might be due to grey days and low temps around 16°C. If only the sun would break through the clouds. I even didn't water for 5 days.

Great. I wish these Laelias were more widely available. Also thanks for posting a picture of the entire plant.
