When to pot brassavola Female
Question When to pot brassavola

Bought a David Sander in spring in 3'' pot and bark. Had a sheath at the time but has had that dry appearance for sev. months. Looks to have another sheath forming but sev. roots are growing out bottom of pot. Haven't grown brassavolas before...what should I do? Thanks

Is the bark broken down? Is it outgrowing the pot?
I wouldn't worry about roots coming out of the bottom of the pot.

If it does need a repot, the best time is when there is new growth starting roots.

david sanders grow painfully slow. a few fresh roots out of the pot are a good sign its growing. otherwise you might not notice. I myself would just let it be and grow some more. David Sanders do not like the roots disturbed. It needs lots of light and multiple mature growths to bloom from the dry sheaths. The sheaths do dry out and may not ever bloom.

I plant mine in dyna rok bark and charcoal equal amts of each... 33 1/3 . Im like a broken record when it comes to mix.

Both of them are right....they gave you good sound advice: so let your plant get used to your environment before repotting.
Repot if the bark is decayed otherwise its fine.
I inherited mine mounted and I just hang it outdoors in the warmer months since humidity in our grow zone is very high; but in winter it gets very dry so I give it humidity and warmth indoors....give it Cattleya lighting.

Hey Bud...thanks for "budding in"! She's under grow lights, hangin' out with her buds. Going to set up my humidifiers now which they all seem to benefit from and it does wonders for my skin!
