Guarianthe bowringiana
An easy growing bifoliate Cattleya with strong root system from Central America. Flower stems can easily bear 20 flowers on a mature bulb. This one has an intense colour, but not the best shape. It lost 3 flowers, when I transported it to our local meeting, but it still gives a good impression.

Wonderful looking plant and flowering. I really like the color of the blooms of this species. Unfortunately, it likes more heat during the winter than I'm able to provide. Congratulations on the great flowering.

Yeah, that name is far less easier on the tongue than cattleya (similar to lycaste versus sudamerlycaste).

Guarianthe, the name is based on the Costa Rican word ‘Guaria’ for orchid, and ‘anthe’, the Greek for flower and was used to describe the type species skinneri, which happens to be the national flower for Costa Rica.
