I've had the upland (short) form of maxima for many years and I've been growing under lights the whole time in a house. Summer nights never get below about 68 (we have central air and it's in a basement), and during the winter, I can get the temps down to about 58 by cracking a window. Also, it still bloomed for me when my nights were about 70 year round, so although it would do better with cooler nights, it still grows and blooms for me and doesn't seem to be very picky. That's one of the reasons why I like it so much. It's been a great grower for me and gives me great flowers with beautiful fragrance on a very compact plant. Days average 80-85.

Yes, I love the fragrance on this one, and I have to say it's probably one of the best smelling cattleyas I've ever had, and I've had some really nice smelling ones like Susan Fender, Goldenzelle lemon schiffon and Waianae Leopard.

First thing I do in the morning is walk up to this plant and sniff on the flowers although the fragrance is already all over in the room.

Oh I don't think wainae leopard smells much at all. I've always wanted a goldenzelle lemon chiffon. If you think maxima smells good, you should smell eldorado and I have a hybrid c. Irene finney x Ruth gee, I believe. Also bob betts is amazing!

I was going to say the Irene finney cross I have doesn't have the best shaped flowers, and it's kind of a space hog, but I keep it just because the fragrance is so amazing.

Not all orchids that are famous for great fragrance possess that fragrance.
My Waianae Leopard was one of the best cattleyas I've ever smelled, although there are so many great smelling cattleyas out there!

You could get Goldenzelle 'Lemon Chiffon' and it may not be scented at all.

I wish I had my Goldenzelle because it was doing so well (about the only standard sized catt that did well for me), but when I divided it, I saw the purple ring on the cut section, then I panicked, then I tossed it out. oh, well...
