Default RLC Maui's Golden Charm, first 3 of 5

This is a continuation of a thread started by NYCorchidman, about RLC Williette Wong 'The Best' AM/AOS. To recap, I have 5 seedlings with this plant as the pollen parent, all 5 are now blooming size.

No. I bloomed in June, with a single flower, very close to 6" across. That is in the 1st photo.

No. III has just opened (2nd & 3rd photos). Buds did not push through the sheath on their own, so I had to help it. As a result, the flower presentation is very crowded, and not with normal orientation. It has an impressive 4 flowers on the spike, but they are just a bit over 4" across. With more water, it should be able to break out of the sheath on it's own in the future.

It will be a while before the other 3 will bloom (all are in sheath, but I can't see bud growth yet). Will add photos as they become available.

Just got back from the greenhouse.

No. III. has a spike with 3 buds, free of the sheath, but probably still 7-10 days away from opening.

No. IV has a spike with 2 buds, which is pushing up through the sheath, probably about 3 weeks from opening.

No. V is in sheath, but no sign of buds yet.

BTW, I bought these 5 directly from EOM. They were sold as being in 3.1/2" pots, with no promises as to plant size. With 4 blooming after one year (11-14 months), and the fifth likely to bloom this fall also, I can only say that the 3.1/2" pot size = very near BS.

Very nice Fairorchids. I really like the yellow eyes on the first one. I have to admit this cross has grown well for me. I am also surprised at the number of flowers and size. The down size was the flowers opened under the leaves. I wish I had purchased another one... or six. Have you picked out the clonal name when it get awarded yet?

.

I use a couple of different clonal names, depending upon whether the plant is 'awardable', or a 'keeper'. However, at the moment I am just using roman numerals for these, as I have not seen all 5 bloom yet.

I am crossing my fingers for a good one in Nos. III or IV, as NJOS has an actual AOS judging scheduled for the Oct meeting.

No IV is in bloom now. It has 2 spikes, one with 2 and the other with 3 flowers. Blooms are about 5.1/4" across, but somewhat paler in color.

To make up for this, this plant is very fragrant.
