One of my Oldest & Still, One of my Favs
I just went looking for the tag for this, and am horrified to say, I can not find it in my big tags envelope. First time this has happened. (All my orchids have numbers written on the pots---part of my tending system, and those numbers are written on the tags of those with tags.)
Not my rojo, not my Jewel Box 'dark waters'.......was one of my first bought orchids, still one of my favs. Five other new bulbs almost ready to produce blooms.
I do like red, boy!

Thank you! I get YOU are an uber fan of red as well! This may work back to the uniforms of The Candian Mounted.....that was a joke. Now, if only I could find that tag!
This puppy should be divided.....but my new rule is, I can only grow one pot of everything I can't grow hanging, and, when I divide and give away, they end up....well, dead.

Could you leave small plastic tags in the pot? I have all my plants tagged.
Do you belong to an orchid society? If I don't have someone in mind to give a division to that really wants to grow that orchid, I sell them at the society sales table. It's a good chance the person that buys it will be able to grow it.

I kinda evolve things in my own and unconventional ways, so, my system truly works perfectly for me....this is the first time ever I can't find a tag.
I have never joined a local society, tho principals from our main two contacted me after my feature for ORCHIDS appeared asking me to come lecture. I demurred.
But your suggestions are excellent .....I need to find people like US to pass my divisions onto....I need to give up trying to ignite people who are not ignitable re learning to grow.
I love all my phals, all found/brought to me for saving, plus, not limits, I grow all of them hanging....the only shortcoming, and a minor one, is breeding clear red phals continues to elude, and, I think always will.
Thanks so much!!!!

If I have to I suppose I could find space for a division of your plant. I want you to realize how much of a burden it will be on me to care for this orchid. I won't enjoy this in the slightest, but when duty calls you must rise to the occasion.......,,,,,😉wink wink

What feature did you submit?? Do you mean Orchids magazine. Now I am intrigued!
We all have to figure out what works for us and have our own systems for sure. I also really like OrchidWiz for its info and pictures and it is where I list and document all of my orchids and what happens to them. If they bloom I add pictures. If I ever lose a tag, I could cross reference an unknown bloom with photos from my list in OW. It does cost a few $$ tho, but worth it for me.

Thank you! Duly noted!!!!! U bet, life requires SACRIFICES!!!
If and when I do divide it---and I do need to.....you got it!
I also observe with pain---I ended up being the troubleshooter and fixer of everyone's computers, they send emergency texts--and every single time I try to ignite and teach cause learning all that stuff too, is VERY fun! Nobody.....wants to learn that either! Why??????

Yes, all the way back in Feb of 01. Generated responses from people in 7 countries, I felt overwhelmed and like hiding under the sofa in the fetal position.
First, my thrill was, they hired Charles Marden Fitch (one of my heros) to come down and do the pics. But then, he got very ill. So Jim, who is very sharp, convinced me over several exhanges....I could do them, they would walk me thru it, I would shoot a big bunch and send them, they would give feedback then the next bunch,etc.....I kept saying NOOOO, I write I do not do pics! He said but we will pay you, you will enjoy it! I said, NOOOO, I don wanna! But he handled it very well and it did all end up OK, they ended up with wanted they wanted.
If it's red.....I want it. Any alliance, cept for those I can't grow indoors in natural light.....I do not care, I want it.

I love red but I love all other orchid colours too. Do you have Burrageara (Oip.) Nelly Isler 'Swiss Beauty'? A gorgeous red Oncidium type. I had one which thrived and bloomed and then it died for some reason. Very worth having.
What month was the article in 01 and what title?? Our society keeps a library with these magazines. Not sure they will go that far back but I will look when we meet again in Sept.

For the record, I too don't ONLY like and grow reds.....but again, if it's red and I can grow it, I WANT IT. I am about to search the cultivar you mentioned, cause pretty sure I need it.
Was Feb of 01. I do have a scanned from the issue version in this system---I think, 10 pages--- will be happy to send it to you as zipped attachment if you PM me an email address!

But right now, I am in my big, red complex bulldog phase!
Trying to save money by figuring out which seedlings from which vendor to use, cause the named divisions I lust for sometimes cost 1K American.
