Hi, this is orchidynasty, today we are going to share with everyone about dividing a cattleya orchids. Many a time people see over-grown cattleya plants with many divisional shoot here and there and it's a rewarding knowledge if you knows exactly how to divide the stem in between well.


All you need is a blunted cutter, why not a sharp one?
Because if you twist at a wrong angle, you may cut in vital position that may kill the stem, especially when you are dealing with the end part near the buttress. That's pretty tricky.

How many stems to be divided depends on your skills and foresightedness. Because we always sell divisional plants from the parent plants and we have 8 years of skill in dividing them nicely to the best optimal outcome of divided stems.

1st) choose a rather blunt cutter rather than a new sharp one.
2nd) Observe with thoughts and take note of the ridge and point of amputation, ask yourself which side to cut to either get more duo stems or multiple- stem.

Roots are rather a tricky part, as often one may be mislead by the beauty of the roots and this sometimes created a hold-back and hesitation for you to take a bold step forward.. You got to know, the main root, secondary roots and primary roots.
According to our many years of experience, any tracks of new root is good enough. Broken, snapped roots is not important as it will rejuvenate itself after re potting.

Most importantly, do not snap the stem.
