This is a seedling first time blooming. It would be better if these blooms are fully opened.

First time bloom is always the worst. Hopefully next year it does better!

.. I have the 'carnea' and 'flamea' variety of this plants both working on buds.

Let me ask.. are or where the sheaths like leather? I had to rescue my spike and 3 buds cus the sheath was too tough. I could see the shadow of the spike starting to curl up inside the sheath. Cut it open just in time as the spike was starting to break from the pressure. Hope I saved it. Dont know which one it is I think the tags are mixed up. Will know when and if one opens up

My plants always have their sheaths open spontaneously. But i know that some plants have tough sheaths which makes spiking difficult.
