Laelia fidelensis
The delicate rose makes these beautiful flowers. This is singular among the Brazilian Laelias because of the pointed lip. Also, the vegetative parts find no similar in any of the other Brazilian Laelias. It was found just one time in nature and never more. Many orchid hunters have been scrutinizing the entire State of Rio de Janeiro, where it was once found in the Sao Fidelis region, but no single plant has ever been found again so far.

I had one of these, it was one that some how became infested with scale and I just didn't want to deal with pampering it. After seeing these pictures, I will definitely be getting another one! Very Beautiful!

I love it and the story that goes with it. I bet they'll find one some day soon. Sooner than later as it is already later than sooner, if you get my meaning.

I get it, Tindo, but am not optimist...It was found in the sixties and 50 years looking for it haven't produced the slightest clue of where this beautiful species could still be in the wild. The only indication, when the plant was described in 1967, was that it had been found in São Fidelis in the State of Rio de Janeiro. I really believe that for a stroke of luck the last specimen in the wild was found and fortunately preserved. A couple of years later and perhaps we would have lost it forever.

Unfortunately such is the way of the world now in days. Like you, I am glad they found it when they did.
